Phyllis "Libby" Gale Dodds

Phyllis Gale (Libby) Dodds, 82, passed away at home in Steamboat Island, West Olympia, Washington on February 3, 2017. She was born April 1, 1934 in Vancouver, Washington to Frank and Leutine Libby. She married in August of 1953 and was married for 26 years. Phyllis earned a B.A. from Central Washington University. She was the beloved mother of David, Steven, John, Sally and Brad Dodds; and grandmother to 10 wonderful grandchildren. Phyllis enjoyed spending her leisure time at the beach and with her family. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished and live on in her children. Phyllis is also survived by her siblings, Mary Lou Dack, Charles Libby, Linda Cheney, Suzi Evans, Jim Libby, Gary Evans, Janet Powers, and Matthew Libby. After raising a family, Phyllis went back to school, earning her Master’s (magna cum laude) from CWU in Special Education. Her 20-year career was spent teaching children with special needs, Alternative High School, and alcohol/drug-dependent youth. She was a relentless, passionate and dedicated teacher. She was a retired special educator at age 70. Phyllis was recognized by her cheerful smile and generous nature, touching many and making a big difference in their lives. She was a devoted, loyal and active member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Upon retirement, she continued to be a tireless volunteer for many charitable and community outreach organizations, such as Faith and Light, Sidewalk Advocacy and Support Center, St. Vincent de Paul’s Bread and Roses, Thurston County Food Bank, Olympia Union Gospel Mission, Beyond Just Faith, and Partners in Prevention Education.
