Phyllis A Reed Culbertson of Nickelsville, VA went to be with her Lord on December 29, 2016 from Parkinson's disease with her loving family and special caregivers by her side. She was born on September 19, 1937 in Scott County, VA to the late Mary Dale (Mollie Sampson) and Carson Reed. She was a member of the Valley Church of Christ in Kingsport, TN where she had taught Sunday School. She loved taking care if her family as well as gardening, interior decorating, cooking, canning and storytelling. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Reed; sisters, Evelyn McDavid and Helen Starnes; two special nieces, Judy Cole and Janet Hensley. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 62 years, Gerald Culbertson of Nickelsville; son, Craig Culbertson (Caty) of Nitro, WV; daughter, Angela Robin Ansell (Craig) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; grandchildren, Jeremy Moody (Casey) of Jonesborough, TN, Ashley Ansell (fiancé' Jason Norman) of Fairfax, VA, Missy Ansell of Ponte Vedra, FL, Caleb Culbertson (Brandi) of Cross Lanes, WV, Molly Nunley (Billy) of Hope Mills, NC, Joshua Culbertson (Brittany) of Poca, WV and Jonathan Culbertson and (fiancé, Rashi Fischer) of Nitro, WV; great grandchildren, Braxton Moody of Havelock, NC, Hannah, Harper, Mila and Mack Nunley of Hope Mills, NC, Ashton Culbertson of Bristow, VA and Trenton Culbertson of Poca, WV; brothers, Raymond and Ralph Reed of Gate City, VA, Jimmy Reed of Yuma, VA, Carl Reed of Weber City, VA, Larry Reed of Knoxville, TN and Billy Reed of San Francisco, CA; three special sisters-in-law, Nell Kilgore of Weber City, VA, Carol (Eugene) Kilbourne of Hiltons, VA and Madge Lay of Newnan, GA; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was lovingly cared for by her special caregivers, Freida Sluss and Jackie Salyers. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA. A funeral Service will be held at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with her son, Minister Craig Culbertson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Monday January 2, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy Moody, Caleb, Joshua and Jonathan Culbertson, son-in-law, Craig Ansell and nephew, Allen Kilgore. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Culbertson family.
