Phyllis Schertz

Phyllis June Schertz, the daughter of Edgar and Helen Croonquist, was born on June 23, 1931 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from the Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline, Illinois on September 9, 1952. On July 18, 1953, she married Sidney Alvin Schertz in Harcourt, Iowa. The lived in Davenport, Iowa until they moved to Colorado in 1961. Phyllis enjoyed camping, square dancing, sewing, and other crafts. After she and Sidney retired, they wintered in Tucson, Arizona where they were very active in their square dancing club and their church. In June of 2005, Phyllis suffered an extended illness due to pneumonia and complications which left her with weakened lungs. She valiantly fought multiple relapses of pneumonia and passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on September 22, 2011. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Helen, and her sister Gretchen Wigton. She is survived by her husband Sidney, her sister Marcia (Cedric) Lofdahl, brothers Keith (Mary) Croonquist, and Peter (Nilajean) Croonquist. She is also survived by her three daughters: Kathleen Schertz, Janet (Richard) Beaver, and Judith (Scott) Williams. There are six grandchildren: Heather (Don) Uptagrafft, Matthew Williams, Erin McNulty, Laura (Stosh) Olsbo, Amber Schertz and Sarah Williams. There are two great-grandsons.
