Plais Johnson was born January 11, 1929 in Willow Springs, MO, the third of 7 children born to Fred and Pearly Johnson. In 1948, when Plais was 19 the family moved to Vanport, OR, and then to Parma before settling in the Wilder, ID area. Plais met Betty Weeks in 1952 at the local movie theatre and they married on August 20, 1955. Plais was educated in Missouri and attended Barber College in Boise, Id in 1957. He carried a Barber’s license in both Oregon and Idaho. Plais owned his own barber shop in Parma from 1962 until his retirement in 1997. Before he attended Barber College he worked for the Nyssa Amalgamated Sugar Factory. He also held various jobs in Weiser, Sandpoint, and Orofino, Id. and Ontario, OR. Plais was called to preach in 1967 and was ordained in the Parma Missionary Baptist Church on February 12, 1967. He had two missions, in Apple Valley and Middleton. He pastored at Parma Missionary Baptist Church and Wilder Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Plais loved to camp, hunt and fish, especially with his son and grandsons. Lost Lake was one of his favorite locations. He also loved wood working and would spend many hours in his garage. Plais also loved playing card and tile games with all of his family, especially his daughter and son-in-law. Shanghai was their favorite game. Plais is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Weeks) Johnson, son and daughter-in-law Brad and Bobi Johnson, Boise, ID, daughter Denice Schlapia, Nampa, ID, grandchildren Renee (Kevin) McNeese, Boise, ID, Rob Outen, Parma, ID, Michele (Justin) Warren, Savannah, GA, and Brandon Johnson, Boise, ID along with 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Loretta Montgue, Weiser, ID, and bonnie (Loren) Dobyns, Deadwood, SD. Plais was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Cecil Johnson, sisters Delois Lattion, Fleta Roper, and Lorene Counts, and son-in-law Ron Schlapia. Funeral services are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, ID on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral chapel with burial to follow immediately at Parma Cemetery.
