Pres. Irene Sitaras
January 6th, 1917 - April 24th, 2013
Pres. Irene Sitaras, of Greensboro, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, at Dormition of The Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, with Rev. Fr. Michael Sitaras, Rev. Fr. Stelios Sitaras, Rev. Fr. Christopher Makiej, and Rev. Fr. Thomas Newlin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pres. Sitaras was born January 6, 1917, in Vrondathos Chios, Greece to Stylianos Manikas and Aikaterini Palios Manikas. She was married to the late Protopresbyter Nicholas Sitaras. She was a very educated woman who finished Pandios Scholi College and law school in Athens, Greece and spoke French, Greek, and English. She immigrated from Greece in 1960 with her husband and children and served by her husband's side, serving the parishes of Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. She was an accomplished painter, chanter, singer, dancer, played the mandolin, bouzouki, and piano, was an expert gardener, gourmet chef and loved animal, especially kitties. She was a loving, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a woman of great faith for Jesus Christ. Her sweet friendly personality will be remembered and missed by all who knew her Pres. Sitaras is survived by her daughters, Sophia Agapion and husband Bill, Pres. Katerina Sitaras Makiej and husband Rev. Fr. Christopher Makiej; sons, Rev. Fr. Michael Sitaras, and wife Pres. Mary, Rev. Fr. Stelios Sitaras; grandchildren, Irene Agapion, Dena Agapion and husband Anthony Psatha, Basil Agapion, Emanuel Agapion, Nicholas Sitaras, John Sitaras, Alexander Sitaras, Christina Sitaras, Melina Sitaras, Alexia Sitaras, Nicholas Makiej, and Michael Makiej; great-grandchildren, Julian, Nina, Sophia, Anthony Jr. and Iliana. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Friday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dormition Greek Church, 800 Westridge Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
