R Hugh Warren
March 24th, 1931 - June 22nd, 2021
R. Hugh Warren of Greeley, Colorado passed away at his home on the morning of June 22, 2021. He was 90 years old. He was born March 24, 1931 to Walter and Alberta (Heywood) Warren and was the youngest of three children. His first name was Russell, but his entire family and most friends and acquaintances called or knew him as Hugh. Hugh and his older sisters, Marge and Ruth, were born and raised on the family farm near the small town of Jennings in western Kansas. He attended the Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science, now Kansas State University, where he met his future wife, Jane Denton. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. After graduation, Hugh joined the Army and served two years in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps in Atlanta Georgia. After Hugh left the Army, he worked for a short time for the Department of Agriculture in Kansas, before taking a job in a bank in LaCrosse, Kansas. He also worked at a bank in Hutchinson, Kansas before moving with Jane to Greeley in 1961 and starting his career at Cache National Bank. He had a long career at Cache National rising to Vice President before leaving around 1980. He spent a short time working as a stockbroker before deciding he wanted to be a small business owner. He and a partner opened a Grease Monkey franchise in 1984. He was the owner/manager of the Grease Monkey on 8th Avenue in the Greeley suburb of Garden City until the late 1990s. Then he worked as a Financial Advisor before finally retiring about 10 years later. Hugh met his future wife, Jane Denton, on a blind date while they were both attending Kansas State. They married in Topeka, Kansas, Jane’s home town, on June 19, 1954. Hugh was still stationed in Atlanta and almost missed his own wedding when he received new orders the day before he was supposed to be leaving to go back to Kansas. Luckily, they worked it all out and he was able to make it to Topeka in time. Hugh and Jane celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year. After moving to Greeley in 1961, Hugh and Jane decided to start a family. They adopted a son, Bruce, in 1963 and a daughter, Linda, in 1966. Hugh loved Greeley and was very active in civic organizations and politics here including the Jaycees and Toastmasters. He was most devoted to the Kiwanis Club of Greeley and was an active member for over 50 years. In his free time, Hugh loved gardening, reading, and following current events and sports. He was a devoted Denver Bronco and University of Colorado Buffalo fan, and his daughter Linda will miss watching football, basketball and multiple other sporting events with him. Hugh is survived by his wife Jane of Greeley, son Bruce (Dede) of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, daughter Linda of Greeley, granddaughters Kourtney Becraft (Ryan) of Utah, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, grandson Nick Warren of Massachusetts, great-grandsons Dayson, Reed, Hank and Ryder of Utah, and multiple nieces and nephews and their progeny. Hugh is preceded in death by his sisters Marge Adams and Ruth Moyer, sister-in-law Gail Noe and brother-in-law Jack Denton. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Greeley, http://greeleykiwanis.org/ .
