R. Daniel Pearo

Daniel Pearo, 75, of Old Trail Road in Fonda, NY, passed away on February 19, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his Liberty Arc family. He was born on October 1, 1948, in Gloversville, NY to the late Lewis and Elizabeth (Bellen) Pearo. Daniel was a one-of-a-kind individual, from his diagnoses to his overall personality. Staff liked to introduce Dan as a “ONCE IN A LIFETIME MAN” because he outlived his diagnoses by many years. Dan enjoyed relaxing on the couch with every blanket that he could find piled on top of him or roaming around visiting every housemate’s room, leaving chaos in his trail. He enjoyed wandering around the house and going into everyone’s rooms to find what was around, going through the closet, and pulling everything out to let them know he had visited. He was often found in his peer’s rooms taking a nap cuddled up with his favorite stuffed animals or blankets. Dan had a wicked sense of humor and giggled at moments no one else would have. Whether it was when staff found out that he had wrecked his roommate’s closets or when he was getting dressed and giving staff a hard time, he was always laughing. Dan was a loving man who liked to curl up with the “ladies” on the couch with all the blankets he had collected. During these last few months, Dan hasn’t felt himself and enjoyed taking comfort in knowing staff were by his side during some of the most difficult times. He would often fall asleep in staff member’s arms while waiting to receive his medical treatments. Daniel was a staple at Liberty and to everyone that knew him. He will be greatly missed by his Liberty family. Friends and family are invited to call from 10:30am to 11:30am on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. There will be a service of remembrance held for Daniel following the calling hours at 11:30am. Dan will be laid to rest in the spring, next to his parents in Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield, NY.
