Ralph Edward Baird was born in Tacoma, WA on 3/17/1926. He went to be with the Lord on 8/30/14 at the age of 88. He is survived by 3 children; Gregory Baird (Joanne), Cyndy Prichard (Keith), and Teri Werner (Gerald), 2sisters; Muriel Haglund and Janet Rasmussen; 6 grandchildren:; Peter, Marisa, Talia, Jenny, Julie and Amy, and 4 great grandchildren; Tanner, Clara, Taylor and Mazie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beverly. Ralph served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a Masters in Education. His career exceeded 30 years with the Tacoma Public School District; initially as a 6th grade teacher, then as principal at several elementary schools, and finally as Director of Special Education. Ralph and Beverly raised their family in Puyallup, WA and enjoyed retirement in their waterfront home in Lakebay Washington. They enjoyed camping along the Washington and Oregon Coasts with family. In retirement, they enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii where they made many long-term friendships. Ralph and Beverly had a knack for making friends wherever they went. Ralph also loved boating and fishing in the Puget Sound. Ralphs most important legacy to his family was his faith in Christ, and his example of love and forgiveness toward people. He served on the Board of Young Life and as a discipleship leader and beloved mentor at Burley Bible Church for over 15 years. He supported many Christian organizations to help spread the word and love of God. Ralphs pride and joy was his family. He invested himself in deep relationships with all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren (who affectionately called him Big Papa ). His wonderful smile and unconditional love was such a blessing. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Ralph's family would like to thank Dara Morgan, ARNP who cared for him with great skill and compassion for many years, as well as the staff at Franciscan Hospice House who helped us through those difficult last days of his life. A memorial Service will be held @ 2PM on Sept. 13 @ Burley Bible Church - 14687 Olympic Dr. SE. Port Orchard, WA 98367.
