Dr. Ralph Benton Campbell, D.D.S. Dr. Campbell, 91, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his residence. Ralph was born on May 3, 1919 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of the late Daisy and Roscoe Campbell. He attended South West Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Campbell taught grades one through eight in a one room school house for three years and then served four years in the United States Army. In 1950, he graduated from Kansas City University Dental School and practiced dentistry for fifty years in Charlotte. He felt it was a joy and privilege to go to work and see his patients everyday. Dr. Campbell was a member of the Charlotte Dental Society, as well as the Second District Dental Society, the State and American Dental Society. He volunteered many hours at both Presbyterian Hospital and Carolinas Medical Center Dental Clinics. Dr. Campbell was a member of the Lions Club and Optimist Club in Charlotte. He was also a member of Myers Park Country Club. Dr. Campbell was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for 56 years where he served as an Elder Emeritus. He was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class and enjoyed the Senior Forum, Covenant Connection and serving on many various committees at the church. In addition to his parents, Dr. Campbell was preceded in death by his brother, Talmage Campbell; sisters-in-law, Ida Lee Campbell, Theobell Campbell, Mary Harrill, Rosalie Harrill and Kathryn Zilk; and brothers-in-law, John Zilk and Robert Hollingsworth. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Harrill Campbell; two daughters, Greta Campbell Brewer and Mary Campbell Caldwell and her husband, Mark; five granddaughters, Jennifer Brewer Frampton and her husband, Greg, Kendall Benton Brewer, Lauren Miller Smith and her husband, Will, Lindsay Miller Buono and her husband, Scott, and Catherine Campbell Miller; one great-granddaughter, Campbell Gray Frampton; brothers, Bob Campbell, Bill Campbell and his wife, Jean, Fred Campbell and his wife, Opal Fay, and Bruce Campbell and his wife, Sue; brother-in-law, George Harrill and his wife, Chris; sister-in-law, Margaret Hollingsworth; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. The family would like to give special thanks to Joyce and Dr. Charles Harris, Diane and Dr. L.G. Walker, Reverend Mark Diehl and Parish Nurse, Judy White. Also, thanks to Carolyn Davis, a devoted caregiver. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the sanctuary of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Dr. Campbell may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church Parish Nurse Fund, 1000 East Morehead St. Charlotte, NC 28204 or Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
