Ralph D. Romano, 79, of Mohawk Drive, passed away Friday, December 28, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam with his family by his side. He was born in Fort Hunter March 18, 1928 a son of the late Luigi and Lucy Esposito Romano. Ralph attended school in Fonda and was a graduate of Fonda High School. Ralph worked as a butcher and grocer for most of his life. He owned and operated Tribes Hill Food Center and Siciliano?s Market in Albany. He co-owned Western Beef House in Albany and Philbrook?s Market in Fultonville. He also worked as a butcher for Sansalone?s Market, Mr. Discount and most recently for Price Chopper in Amsterdam. He was a former member of the Wood Chopper?s Bowling League and the Holy Name Society at Sacred Heart Church. Ralph enjoyed coin collecting, working outdoors, gardening and playing cards, especially, ?pitch? and ?pinochle?. Ralph?s loving family includes his wife of 48 years, Sonia Mokowich Romano of Tribes Hill, four children, Louis Vickie Romano of Fultonville, Ralph ?Scott? Sally Romano of Tribes Hill, Eileen Jeff Terwilliger of Cheshire, MA, and Michael Julienne Romano of North Glen, CO, seven grandchildren, Sara Romano, Jessica Romano, Stephen Romano, Eric Romano, Mikaela Romano, Dominic Romano and Mary Grace Terwilliger, and two sisters, Angie Terenzio of Schenectady and Antionette LaVerne Jones of Fonda. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Ralph was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Anthony and Louis Romano and Frances Greco. A Funeral Service will be at 3:00PM on Sunday, December 30 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with Fr. Patrick Gallagher, OFM, Conv., officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Contributions in Ralph?s memory may be made to Shriner?s Children?s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104, or to the Liberty Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
