Randell Dixon Dodd
December 13th, 1928 - October 13th, 2005
Dodd, Randell Dixon, 76, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday October 13, 2005 at Edward White Hospital. He was born in St. Petersburg at Faith Hospital, the forerunner of St. Anthony?s Hospital. His father, Mark Dixon Dodd, was a well-known St. Petersburg artist and the designer of the city?s Driftwood subdivision?s original nineteen homes. His mother, Vivien Moran Dodd, was a descendant of the family of American artists Thomas and Edward Moran. He attended North Ward Elementary, Mirror Lake Junior High, St. Petersburg Senior High and St. Petersburg Junior College. He graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Gold Key and Omicron Delta Kappa service honoraries; Phi Mu Alpha music honorary, and Sigma Delta Pi Spanish honorary. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served as a pilot and Air Operations Staff Officer in Tactical Airlift, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1970. He was stationed in France, Okinawa, Taiwan and various stateside bases, and flew over 700 combat support hours in Vietnam. He was employed as Business Manager of the First United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg, where he also served as a Trustee, a choir member and Church Historian. He was a director of St. Petersburg Neighborhood Housing Services and president of the Driftwood Property Owners? Association. Survivors include his wife Mary Nicol Shenk Dodd; a daughter, Jennifer D. East, El Rito, NM; a son, Mark Dixon Dodd, Mount Pleasant, SC; a sister, Sydney Dodd Binder, Madison, WI; and three grandchildren. Anderson-McQueen Funeral & Cremation Centers-NE St. Petersburg
