Ray H. Bowen, Jr., 80, of Mount Carmel, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020, at 7 am at home with his family by his side. Ray was born July 4, 1939 at Duffield, Virginia to Ray H. Bowen, Sr. and Eva Mae Bowen. He was employed by Penn-Dixie Cement Company for many years and worked as a Diesel Mechanic for several trucking companies. Ray was preceded in death by his mother and father; one daughter, Cynthia Bowen; one grandson, Michael Bowen; four sisters, Ann Wade, Faye Pate, Rose Bowen and Bonnie Ramey; one brother, Lonnie Bowen. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Martha Bowen; one son, Ray “Pete” Bowen III and his wife Traci; one brother, Sam Bowen; three sisters, Betty Bowen, Anita Mullins and Joye Bishop; four grandchildren, Heather Brock, Madelaine Redman, Tyler Bowen and Grace Roberts; one great grandchild, Evelyn Brock; several nieces and nephews. The family of Ray H. Bowen, Jr. will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Doug Messer officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 am Thursday in the Church Hill Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am Thursday.
