Ray Hughes Ray Allen Hughes, Sr. passed away December 18, 2013 from cancer. Ray was born on November 13, 1955 in Roseburg, OR to Donald Hughes and Mary Hughes Mortensen. He was the youngest of three children and spent most of his life in the Junction City area. Ray loved football and played at Junction City High School with the Tigers where he graduated. Ray also participated in The Annual Shrine All-Star football game on August 24, 1974. Ray donated to The Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children each year. He also loved hunting, fishing, camping, and being with family and friends. Ray worked most of his adult life on RV’s, building, repairing, and designing motor homes and buses. Ray was the owner of Lone Wolf Design in Eugene. Ray is survived by his wife, Helen, mother, Mary Mortensen, brother, Donald Hughes, and sister, Mary Sue West. Ray has one son, Ray Allen Hughes, Jr. a stepson, Rodger Christensen, and a stepdaughter, Gina Vanderkooi. Ray has 6 grandchildren who think Grandpa Ray is the next best thing to Santa Clause. (Sometimes Santa comes in second). Ray also has 3 nieces and 2 nephews who think Uncle Ray was very, very special. Ray was predeceased by his father and his stepfather, Clifford (Lefty) Mortensen. Lefty taught Ray how to work hard and treat everyone with respect and compassion. A celebration of Life will be held at Viking Sal Senior Center, on January 11, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, on 245 W. 5th Ave., Junction City, OR. Remembrances may be made in Ray’s name to: Shriners Hospital for Children-Portland Unit, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd., Portland, OR 97201. Arrangements entrusted to Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home.
