Rebecca V. Rafferty
August 5th, 1916 - December 2nd, 2011
Mrs. Rebecca V. Rafferty. 95, of Galway, passed away Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She was born August 5, 1916 in Grooville, N.Y. Sullivan County, daughter of the late Leonard and Cynthia Jane Yorks DeVoe. Mrs. Rafferty was educated in Grooville and Jackson Summit Elementary Schools, graduating from Gloversville High School in 1935. She continued her education at the former Oneonta Normal School, graduating in 1939. A home maker her entire life, Rebecca was devoted to her family and enjoyed being with them always. She spent time gardening, camping, quilting and enjoyed traveling. She was a member of the Mayfield's Servicemen's Club Auxiliary, Adirondack C.B. Club, and the former Ida McGinnis Seniors. Rebecca was first married to Frederick E. Wilcox who was killed in France during WWII. She was also pre-deceased by her second husband Ernest L. Rafferty in 1986. Survivors include her children: Frederick L. Wilcox of Galway and Linda L. Joyce of Gloversville. She is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great grandson, nieces and nephews. Rebecca was pre-deceased by eight brothers and sisters: Vina Mae Burgey, Charles DeVoe, Stanley DeVoe, Kenneth DeVoe, Dorothy Hart, Frances Ruff, Ethelinda Ruff, and Charlotte DeVoe. Funeral services will be conducted 2 pm Monday December 5, 2011 at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, with Reverend William A. Brower Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12 noon -2 pm prior to the service. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville, N.Y. 12078.
