Remedios "Remie" Colantro
January 18th, 1942 - October 4th, 2023
Remie S. Colantro, 81, of Gonzales, California passed away peacefully October 4, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. Remie was born January 18, 1942 in Salinas, California to her mother, Consuelo Andrade Colantro, and her father, Eulogio Colantro. She was very proud to be a lifelong Gonzales resident and graduated from Gonzales High School in 1959. She worked for Gonzales Potato Company for 36 years until her boss, Calvin Short, retired and closed company doors. Remie, however, was not ready to retire, so he lovingly helped Remie find her final employer, Costa Farms in Soledad, where she worked for over 24 years. Both companies and her co-workers loved her like family and they all became part of her family too! After working for over 60 years, she finally retired at the age of 77. Remie was a devoted Auntie, Sister, Grantie, Nina and friend to everyone who got the privilege to know her. She enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49ers and the Golden State Warriors games and was a loyal fan. Remie took pride in her title of “auntie” and often introduced herself to new people as “Auntie Rem”. Remie is preceded in death by both her parents, her brothers Lawrence Colantro, Donald Colantro, Leo Colantro, and Victor Colantro, and her sisters, Dorothy Dalipe and Priscilla Martinez. She is survived by her sister Annie Schmidt, her sister-in-law Laura Guthrie, and her brothers Reuben Ferrel and Tony Ferrel, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 20th and Saturday, October 21st. Visitation will be held October 20th at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905 from 12-6 pm and the rosary will begin at 4 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on October 21st at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, 116 S. Belden Street, Gonzales, CA 93926 followed by a burial at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas, CA 93901.

We Entrusted Remedios Colantro's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
