Renate E. Croan died August 24 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was 87 years old and a devoted wife and mother.

Born in Mannheim, Germany, Renate met her husband, Loren D. Croan, when he was stationed there with the U.S. Army in 1958. They were married two years later and remained together until August 2014, when Loren died in Renate’s arms.

Renate is survived by her son, Michael D. Croan, and his three children: Peri N. Croan, Miles T. Croan, and Ava G. Croan. She is also survived by her sister, Margot Leidel, of Fürth im Odenwald, Germany.

Renate’s ashes will be interred with her husband’s at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Monday, October 14 at 9:00 AM. The family invites all who will miss her to attend.
