Renee J. Mooney
June 10th, 1944 - May 12th, 2013
Mrs. Mooney, 68 of Charlotte, NC went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2013, with her family by her side. Born June 10, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio, to Dr. George M. Jameson and the late Mary Chakeres Jameson, Renee was a graduate of Upper Arlington High School and Ohio State University where she received her undergraduate degree in Dental Hygiene and a Masters in Speech Pathology. A talented singer and accomplished dancer, she performed leading roles in numerous theatrical productions at OSU and later toured Europe for the USO as a featured performer. Her career focused on making a difference in the lives of students, faculty and alumni at both the University of Alabama at Birmingham as Director of Student Affairs and the University of Alabama in Huntsville as Director of Alumni Affairs. Renee was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a generous friend. She was a beautiful woman with a luminescent spirit that touched many lives. In the last few months Renee was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love in the form of visits, cards and letters she received from love ones and from friends old and new. She left this life knowing how blessed and loved she was and full of God's grace. Renee is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, William Rodney Mooney, of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Michelle Mooney Brown and Nicole Mooney Taylor, both of Charlotte, NC; brother, Jamie George Jameson of Sarasota, FL; uncle, Dr. Michael Chakeres of London, OH; aunt, Chrysa Jameson of Akron, OH. The joys of Renee's life were her four grandchildren, Emily, Hunter, Collin, and Michael, who will miss their Grammy dearly. Visitation will be held at Hankins & Whittington, 1111 East Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28203 from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. A funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 16, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710.

The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
