Rev. Msgr. J. Gerald Gallagher

Rev. Msgr. J. Gerald Gallagher, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022. He was 92. Legacy Born and raised in New York, Fr. Gallagher graduated from Fordham Prep where he played basketball and then Fordham University before attending St. Vincent's Seminary in Western Pennsylvania. He was ordained a priest on June 15, 1957 and his first assignment was St. Patrick's Parish in Woodbury, NJ. He remained there for five years before joining the U.S. Air Force where he served as Chaplain and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel when he retired in 1985. Fr. Gallagher then returned to Diocese of Camden and became pastor of St. Patrick’s until his retirement in 2005. Father Gallagher is remembered for his kindness, compassion and jovial demeanor. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed singing and the cinema. He had great devotion to the Blessed Mother, which helped him grow as a faithful and loving priest who served the people of God in imitation of her Son. Family Father Gallagher was predeceased by this parents, John and Mary, his sister, Mary Elizabeth and many loving relatives Farewell Tribute . A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17 from 9:00 -10:00 AM at McGuinness Funeral Home (34 Hunter St, Woodbury, NJ) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angels Parish (St. Patrick Church - 86 Cooper St, Woodbury, NJ). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Angels Parish, 64 Cooper Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096.
