Warner Robins, GA: Mr. Rhett B. Smith, 71, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Porterfield Nursing Home and Rehabilitation center in Macon, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Rhett was born on October 23, 1938 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Everett Nina Edith Dickens Smith of Thomaston, GA. Rhett was predeceased by his wife Lana Cheryl Layfield Smith in April 1995. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired Civil Service Electronics Technician at Robins, Air Force Base. Rhett was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America Middle Georgia Region – Memory Lane Chapter; Corvettes Limited of Central Georgia and a Charter member of the Heart of Georgia Covair Club. He is survived by his Brother; Robin Smith of Marietta, GA; Brother-in-Law; Darrell Lynne Layfield of Warner Robins, GA; several nieces and nephews; Clay Layfield of Eastman, GA; Chad Layfield; Allison Layfield of Warner Robins, GA and Robin Sven Smith of Marietta, GA. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Central GA Chapter 301 Mulberry Street, Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201 in Mr. Rhett B. Smith’s name. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
