Richard "Ernie" Ernest Bagnal
May 28th, 1925 - July 7th, 2018
Richard Ernest “Ernie” Bagnal, 93, of Hopkins, SC passed away July 7th with his family by his side. He was born in Alcolu, SC to Clayton Benjamin & Lila McCall Bagnal and had 2 older brothers, Arthur and C.B. Ernie graduated from Dentsville High School and upon turning 18, he volunteered for Military Service in the United States Army Air Forces as a Radio Operator/Mechanic. He received several Honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Ernie later continued his government service and retired in 1991 as the Chief Appraiser of HUD. He married Eulalia Smith Buford; had 2 children, Anne Bagnal (Wanda), Lisa Prynne (Philip); and a granddaughter, Sarah, whom he adored. Gardening, watching his girls ride horses, winning at cards, and cooking were some of his passions. He and Eulalia created a stunning garden and flower Heaven for everyone to enjoy. From huge tomatoes, cucumbers, peanuts, to Day Lilies, Orchids, Roses, and Camellias; the yard was a showcase they enjoyed so much. Ernie is survived by his daughters, granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a Donation in Memory of Ernie to the Wounded Warrior Project or: “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.” -John Wesley Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.thompsonsfuneral.com.

We Entrusted Richard Bagnal's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
