Richard Austin Bibby of Fiddletown, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the age of 92. He was born in San Jose on November 15, 1928, to Enoch and Buena Bibby. Richard is survived by his son David Bibby (Paula) of Sutter Creek, and his daughter Kathy Bibby (Merle) of Atascadero. Richard pursued many passions throughout his life. He was an Army veteran during the Korean war and was stationed mostly in Alaska. He was also employed as a San Jose Fireman, and he tried his hand at being a barber. He eventually retired from Lockheed where he worked as a tool and die grinder. He also had many hobbies, among them was painting, bowling, and horses. He was especially proud of the barbed wire collection he worked on throughout his life. That collection consisted of over 200 pieces. He travelled all over the Western United States to barbed wire shows and county fairs displaying the collection. Who knew that each ranch, like a cattle brand, had barbed wire twisted in a particular pattern? His collection was donated to California Barbed Wire Collectors Association. Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia, who he met and married in just eight weeks. They were married for 69 years. Patricia died last year. His children find comfort in thinking that Patricia greeted him at his passing and asked, “What took you so long?” At the family’s request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, his children are asking donations to be made to the Laughton Ranch at 90 Clinton Rd., Jackson, CA 95642 for large animal rescue.
