Richard Herschel Brashear died August 27th, 2016. He was born July 16, 1940 in Sturgis, Kentucky and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1958. He was the son of Ila Brashear and Imogene Baird Brashear. He married Norma Jean Skinner on September 1, 1962. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Richard H. Brashear II (Julie) of North Augusta, South Carolina and James Matthew Brashear (Diana) of Dunedin, Florida, two grandsons, two granddaughters and three great grandchildren.. He served three years in the United States Army Signal Corps. He attended The University of Kentucky and Indiana State University majoring in Accounting. He joined ALLTEL Corporation in 1962 and remained with ALLTEL until his retirement in 2001. He held various technical and management positions prior being made president of ALLTEL's telephone operations in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida in 1986. He served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Telecommunications Industry Association from 1986 until his retirement, serving as president in 1992 and 1997. He was inducted into the Association's Hall of Fame upon his retirement. While in Live Oak he served in various civic and business organizations. He served as president of the Suwannee County Chamber, the Council for Economic Development and the Suwannee County Foundation for Excellence in Education. He served on the Board of Trustees of North Florida Community College for fours years acting as president for three years. In 1997 he was recipient of Suwannee County's Citizen of the Year award. He was active in church serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and singing in the choir. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved from Live Oak, Florida to St. Petersburg, where they have resided at the Westminster Shores Retirement Community. He was a member of Palm Lake Christian Church. In lieu of flowers the family asked that contributions be made to the Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton SC. (302 S. Broad Street Clinton, SC 29325)
