Richard Rick Charles McGrath

Richard Charles McGrath Richard (Rick) Charles McGrath, 65, passed away at his residence on June 1, 2018 as a result of pancreatic cancer. Rick was born August 25, 1952 in Fairmont, Minnesota where he lived until leaving to attend the University of Minnesota on a Chick Evans scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Elective Studies. He also completed a Master's degree in Personal Financial Planning from the College of Financial Planning. Rick owned and operated Robbie's Restaurant in Springfield, Illinois before moving into the financial services business where he worked for over 25 years. Before retiring in 2017, Rick worked as an Educational Consultant with Charles Schwab Corporation in a job that he loved – talking with people across the US about the need to plan for retirement. Prior to moving to Santa Fe in 2016, Rick and Darcy lived in Kansas City for almost 20 years, where they were active members of Visitation Parish. Rick was preceded in death by his mother Rhea, father Bob, and brother Jim. He is survived by his wife, Darcy of Santa Fe, New Mexico; son, Kevin of rural Jacksonville, Illinois; brother Dan (Tricia) of Panama City Beach, Florida; brother, Mick (Dolly) of Bemidji, Minnesota; twin brother, Rob of Seattle, Washington; sister-in-law Ruth (Jim) of Fairmont, Minnesota; sister, Marnie (Jack) of Olympia, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Rick was always the first to get involved in any family get-together and delighted in demonstrating his (equally mediocre) skill playing golf both right and left handed. A wizard with the soup pot and everyone's favorite Trivial Pursuit partner, Rick was most of all a caring listener whose boundless compassion lightened the lives of those around him. Celebrations of his life and scattering of ashes will take place later this year.
