Richard L. Cooper known by most people either by Coop or Dick has taken an extended fishing trip. We cant go with him this time but we have all come here to wish him a very plentiful catch with smooth waters. Coop was born in Bremerton, Washington on January 3, 1935 but he grew up in Midland. As a teenager and young adult he spent most of his time around Kapowsin. He and his stepbrother, Norman Southworth, got into a lot of mischievous situations there. He loved to fish the Kapowsin Lake, which is where he caught the albino catfish in June of 2009. As a young boy he entered a Talent Scout contest, for his vocal abilities, and was invited to join a Barber Shop Quartet, which he decided to decline. He married and fathered three sons, James, Richard Jr. and Scott. He married Christine in 1969. They lived in Kapowsin for ten years then moved to Grayland and bought The Local Tavern, which they owned for 20 years. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Robert I. Cooper and his mother, Lelah Grass Southworth. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Christine; his son James D. Cooper and his wife Debbie; son Richard L. Cooper Jr. and his wife Theresa; son Scott A. Cooper; sister Lila Thomas, sister Floye DeVore; sister Rita Mieras; sister Reba Newman; brother Ronald W. Cooper and his wife Patti; Robert J. Cooper and his wife Darlene; (9) grandchildren; (15) great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Coop will be remembered for many reasons, his wit, his antics, his musical talent, his brotherhood, his friendship, his loyalty, but most of all his love of family and friends. We invite you to join family and friends for Dicks Celebration of Life on Saturday September 27, 11:00 a.m. at 309 192nd St E, Spanaway, WA 98387 , followed by a pot luck dinner at Dick and Chris home.
