Richard Lewis Dixson

July 11th, 1933 - November 11th, 2023

Richard Lewis Dixson (Dick) passed away November 11, 2023, at the age of 90 in Eugene, Oregon. He was born July 11, 1933, in Casper, Wyoming, and moved to Toledo, Oregon at the age of 5 to be closer to his Grandparents, the Jacobsons. Dick later relocated to Beaver Creek, Oregon where he completed his high school education. Dick spent 3 years in the Merchant Marines and was honorably discharged to attend Eugene Bible Academy in Eugene, Oregon, where he graduated and was able to pursue his passion for serving the Lord. He became an Associate Pastor for Open Bible Standard. He dedicated many years of his life to this role, spreading the teachings of his faith and providing guidance to those in need. One of his passions in life was reading his Bible and being a great prayer warrior. Later in life Dick worked for Georgia Pacific as a Boiler Tender and retired from there in 1993. Dick was a loving and devoted family man. He treasured his wife Delores and shared a deep bond with his daughters: Sondra Pickett and her husband Steve from Yuma, Arizona; the late Robin Abelsen and her husband Dave from Gresham, Oregon; and Tami Maier and her husband Dave from Springfield, Oregon. He also leaves behind 2 stepdaughters and 2 stepsons, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nephews. Dick had a zest for life and found great joy in his favorite hobby – fishing. He passed down his love for this activity to his family, teaching them the art of fishing and creating cherished memories during fishing trips. Whether it was on a river, lake, or ocean, Dick could always be found with a fishing pole in hand. His passion for fishing led him to tie and sell his own flies. Even in retirement, when he and Delores resided in Newport, Oregon, Dick worked for charters, unable to resist the allure of the ocean and his beloved pastime. Dick’s parents, John and Olga Dixson, his sister Marlene, and his foster sister Velma preceded him in death as well as his daughter Robin Abelsen. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who loved them as they were by Dick. A funeral service will be held on December 2nd to honor Dick’s life. The details of the service will be shared privately with close family and friends.
