Richard A. Downey, Jr. (Tony), 74, of Bluffton, SC, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2021. He was born on August 28, 1946, in Buffalo, NY, and preceded in death by his father Richard A. Downey, Sr., MD, mother Barbara Dold Downey, and sisters Barbara D. Wilson, Deborah D. Stiker. Tony is survived by his wife of 43 years Jeanne Kelsey Downey, sons R. Christopher Downey of Buffalo, NY and Brendan M. Downey of Bluffton, SC, daughter Carrie D.(Shannon) Whitney, grandsons Sean and Connor Whitney of Kenmore, NY, sisters Melissa D. Ryan of Naples, FL and Patricia D. Gerace of Rochester, NY. Mr. Downey graduated from Canisius High School, Buffalo,NY, and Nichols College, Worcester, MA. He had a career in banking from Philadelphia, PA, Rochester, NY, and Buffalo, NY. Tony retired from M&T Bank, Buffalo, NY, after 20 years in 2006. Mr. Downey volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Erie County (COB), ECMC Board of Managers, ECMC Lifeline Foundation, and Canisius High School Alumni Board. Due to the pandemic, a Memorial Service will be held later in Buffalo, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice Care of the Low Country.
