It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Wayne Duncan, born January 4, 1947, announces his death on Sunday, July 9, 2023, after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin W. Duncan, Jr. (1965), and Sarah W. Duncan (2019) as well as his sister Vivian E. Duncan (1967). Richard is survived by his brother Steve, his wife Nadia, Steve’s daughters; Wendy, her husband Donnie, her children Mark, his wife, Meagan, and their two children as well as her daughter Deena, her husband Michael and their daughter, his daughter Stephanie Tanner, and his son Stephen with three sons. His second brother is James, widow of Marcelle (nee Pope) and their children, Amanda, husband David Rabon, and children, Hannah and Colton. His youngest brother is Scot, married to Bettie Alexander, with sons Kevin and Cameron. Richard’s surviving sisters are: Gayle, married to Don Hales with her son Joseph and his daughter and son Jason with his wife, Lindsay along with their two children. Donna, and her husband Steve R McTyre with their children Michael, his wife Tracy and daughter along with their daughter Caitlin and her daughter. Carole is married to R. Hood Dulin of Mint Hill. Their children are Miranda with one daughter and two sons and Robert H “boomer”, jr., his wife Sarah, and their two children. Tricia (Patricia) Griffin is his youngest sister along with her two children Ricky (Kai) and his sister Lauren. Richard always kept in touch with all of us when he lived away from his hometown of Charlotte for most of the last 50 years and his visits were always a source of joy with larger and larger family gatherings through the years. He was very lucky to have been able to travel extensively during those years and see the world as he always wanted also. He had many friends all over the country and world and he continued to keep in touch with them during his last years spent here with his family. He is also survived by his Aunt Billie McConnell of Huntersville and his Aunt Barbara with husband Barry Choate of Waxhaw and many first and second cousins he endeavored to stay in touch with also. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mecklenburg Shrine Club located at 5200 Mecklenburg Shrine Club Rd, Charlotte, NC 28215. Lunch will be served at 1pm and a Remembrance Ceremony will be conducted at 2pm.. Please RSVP to 704-591-1652 and note whether you will attend one or both.
