Richard Joseph Ewald

February 27th, 1927 - May 1st, 2024

Richard Joseph Ewald, 97, of Monument CO, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, in the care of Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Hospital Colorado Springs, CO. He was born February 27, 1927, to John August Ewald and Eleanor Amelia Ewald in Beatrice Nebraska. 

He married Mildred Irene Stevens on June 24, 1951.  They lived in Beatrice Nebraska until January 1957, when they moved to Greeley Colorado. 

Richard is a World War II Army veteran, having served in Germany. He was awarded WW II Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal. 

Throughout his life, Richard worked as a carpenter, craftsman and for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1987.

At the age of 80, Richard began learning how to use a computer and explore the internet. Richard took part in a Veteran’s Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2008.

Richard and his wife Mildred enjoyed RV camping and toured different states with the Greeley Sunrise Sams RV club. 

Richard enjoyed golf, watching auto racing, baseball, fishing, camping, and building model railroads.  Richard was very skilled at working on cars, tinkering in the garage and being a Mr. Fix – it.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church, Greeley CO. 

Richard is survived by his 4 Children. Ronald Lee Ewald (Laura) of Cheyenne, WY, Janet Marie Bochinski (Mark) of Monument, CO, Keith John Ewald (Zita) of Longmont, CO, Lori Louise Binns (Geoff) of Centennial, CO, 2 Grandchildren Adam Bochinski, Kira Bochinski, 2 Great grandchildren Ashton and Korbin.

And sister, Betty Trump of Albuquerque, NM.

Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 70 years, Mildred Irene Ewald, his parents John and Eleanor Ewald, and his siblings Albert Ewald, Irene Felton, Julie Anderson, Mildred Paul, and Lois Myers. 

 

A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3000 35th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634, with a Life Celebration Service to follow at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, CO. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to Trinity Lutheran School and Pre-school, in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home
