COLUMBIA - Richard Arthur Green died October 1, 2015, in Columbia SC, after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's disease. Richard was born in Ashland, Pennsylvania, August 10, 1924 to the late Richard T. and Margaret Dillman Green. Richard was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Philippines during WWII. Richard earned a BS and MS in Education at Pennsylvania State University. Richard began his teaching career in the Sunbury School District. He married Marion Agnew Green, who preceded him in death in 1996. He and his family moved to Glenside PA in 1960 and lived there for 44 years. Richard taught for over 30 years at Cheltenham High School in the Industrial Arts Department; most notably serving in production for CHS's vibrant theater department. A Life Scout, Richard also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Green Sacko (Stephen), Elizabeth Green Brunton (Vernon); grandchildren, Ryan Sacko (Ali), Keegan Sacko (Katie), David R Green Jr., Ethan Brunton, and Melissa Green; daughter-in-law, Christine Green. In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by his son, David R Green, who died in 2007. A memorial service will be held at the family's long time church home, Glenside United Church of Christ on October 12, 2015 at 11:00 am. The family will greet visitors at 10:30 at the church. The family wishes to thank Atria Assisted Living at Forest Lake for providing an active and loving community, Lutheran Hospice of South Carolina for care and comfort, and private care by Sharon and Christine. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements
