Richard "Dickie" Hayes
December 23rd, 1944 - August 29th, 2024
In Loving Memory
Richard “Dickie” Hayes, born on December 23, 1944, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 29, just shy of celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary. He was 79 years young.
Dickie was a true adventurer, whose insatiable curiosity and passion for life took him around the world, both for work and the sheer joy of exploration. His taste for travel was sparked during his time in the Air Force, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for discovering new places and cultures. This love of exploration continued throughout his life, as he traveled to countless countries, making friends and memories along the way.
Loyalty was one of Dickie’s defining qualities, evident in his unwavering dedication to his loved ones and his lifelong passions. He was an avid sports fan, a die-hard supporter of the Mets and Jets, standing by them through every season, good or bad. College basketball also held a special place in his heart, and each year, he and Maria—along with friends—would travel to a different city to watch the First Round of the NCAA tournament, creating cherished memories that spanned decades.
Dickie was not only an explorer of the world but also an accomplished entrepreneur. With a strong work ethic and a self-starter mindset, he spent 30 successful years as the Director of Global Information Services for an international Fortune 300 company. This role allowed him to combine his professional expertise with his love for travel, ultimately leading him to fulfill his dream of establishing his own global IT consulting business.
Dickie was predeceased by his beloved parents, Antoinette and Raymond Hayes, and his dear sister, Sandra. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria, who was the love of his life; his brother, Thomas, and his wife, Marie; his sister-in-law, Eleanor Beason; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cherished friends and their families.
Family was at the heart of Dickie’s life. He found immense joy in being surrounded by those he loved, and his presence brought warmth and happiness to every gathering. He loved as much as he was loved, and he treasured the time spent with his family and friends.
As we gather to honor Dickie’s memory, we remember a man whose life was a testament to the beauty of exploring the world, the importance of loyalty and hard work, and the value of cherishing those we meet along the way. His positive spirit, infectious stories, and love for those close to him will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service celebrating Dickie’s life will be held at 3:00PM Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, if you find yourself wanting to honor Dickie in a special way, a donation to an animal shelter or rescue of your choosing would be the most fitting tribute.
