Richard Lee Hendren
July 6th, 1933 - January 2nd, 2024
Richard Lee Hendren (Dick) passed away on January 2, 2024, at the age of 90. Dick was born in Akron, Ohio, on July 06, 1933 and spent his formative years in Ohio and Kentucky. He moved to the Summerfield area in 1994. Dick graduated from Kent State University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was an accomplished golfer and won the Intercollegiate Championship at Kent State University, as well as the City of Akron Class A Championship in the '60s. Dick enjoyed flying and received his private pilot license in the early '90s. He was a former real estate representative and owner of Hendren’s Topsoil Service in Akron for more than 20 years. Dick was extremely dedicated in his support of the handicap by reading for the blind and driving for the handicap. He was a member of Weirsdale Presbyterian Church. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, V.B. and Evelyn Hendren, brother, Michael, wife, Sandra and he is survived by his sister Suzanne (Rex) Humbard of Boynton Beach, FL. stepson, William (Melissa) Self of Summerfield, FL. stepdaughter, Leigh (Sean) Andrews of Apollo Beach, FL. five grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Weirsdale Presbyterian Church, 16303 SE 137th Court, Weirsdale, FL.
