Our beloved husband and father, Richard Herbert, at the age of 68, passed away at home on Dec. 3, 2016 after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. During this time he was surrounded and comforted by family. Richard Herbert was born on July,16 1948 in Seattle WA to Adeline and Gordon Herbert. At the age of 7, Richard, his mother and brother moved to Kodiak AK. After attending and graduating Kodiak High school in 1966, Richard moved to Lynnwood, WA and attended Seattle Community College and at the same time worked at Boeing from 1967-1968. During this time he had met who would turn out to be his lovely wife, Sharon in 1966. From there he enlisted in the Army and served from 1969-1971. While stationed at Fort Lewis in 1970, Richard and Sharon wed. After serving his country in Vietnam where he earned many accommodations and the rank of Sargent (E-5) he left the military to peruse a career in mechanical engineering. His first stop on his journey to education was receiving a diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Electronics in 1973 then moving on to attend Olympic College and the University of Washington. While attending school, Richard started his career at NUWC, Naval Underwater Warfare Center in Keyport, WA. During this time Richard and Sharon had moved to Poulsbo, WA where they started to build there family, having three boys, David, Jason and Kevin. While working, going to school and raising a family Richard graduated from the University of Washington in 1981 with a BA in Mechanical Engineering. Richard was a man that worked very hard through out his life to support his family and gave his all. During his career he became a member of Institute of Environmental Sciences which he enjoyed and after 32 years of hard work he retired in 2005. Through out his life he enjoyed camping, taking his boys on hikes in places he hiked as a kid, fishing and in his early years a love for RC airplanes. He also had a passion for motorcycles and with many rides under his belt, short and long, in 2006 Richard and Sharon along side their son David and daughter in law Danelle, made the ultimate journey riding from Poulsbo, WA to Kodiak, AK for Richards high school reunion. The journey took them over 30 days and over 5200 miles. During his retirement years he took care for his late mother and property, many family camping trips and enjoyed the company of his 4 legged friends. He is survived by his wife Sharon, their sons David (Danelle), Jason, and Kevin (Sierra) and eight grandchildren whom all reside in Poulsbo, WA. His brother Alan Herbert and step brother Kris Anderson both from Alaska. Preceded in death by Baby Girl Herbert, step sister Corrine, mother Adeline Ravet and father Gordon Herbert.
