Richard Lawrence Jasper
February 24th, 1934 - September 29th, 2018
Richard L Jasper, age 84 died on 29 September 2018 after a beautiful life. Richard was born 24 February, 1934 in Brewton, Alabama to the late Harvey and Mattie Jasper. He was the oldest of six children and his surviving siblings are: Harvey Jasper Jr of Phoenix Arizona, Louise Stallworth of Cincinnati Ohio, and Milliarstine Coleman of Greensboro Alabama. Richard was married for 62 years to Lillian Naomi Jasper with four children: Gregory (Leony) Jasper, Mitchell (Josephine) Jasper, Leslie (Christopher) Boyle and Lisa (Hosea) Rowell. Richard and Lillian have six grandchildren: Maurice (Tonya) Jasper, Lilly Kroll, Evette (Toryan) Dixon, Darren Courtney, Aaron (Michelle) Jasper,and Marissa Jasper;they also have six great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.He also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends. Richard Jasper and Lillian Jasper were childhood sweethearts and married in 1956, the same year he enlisted in the US Army. He was assigned to Fort Knox Kentucky, Vilseck Germany, Fort Lewis WA, Korea, and Vietnam. He served his country proudly for 20 years and 8 months retiring as a Sergeant First Class at Fort Lewis Washington. Richard dedicated his life protecting all those in his care and knew years before he retired from the Army he was going to be a school bus driver. He also wanted the summers off so he could spend more time with Lillian who was a school teacher. Richard drove for the Clover Park School district for 14 years until his retirement. He was a long time member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served over ten years as the usher board president and was on the finance and trustee committee. He was also a member of the Masons Cassia lodge number 5 and served as their treasurer for several years. Richard has been a long time resident of University Place, Washington. Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, 6 October 2018 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Jesse Ogburn officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, 8 October 2018 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
