Mr. Richard E. Keefe, 48, of Mayfield, passed away May 9, 2013 at the Albany VA Medical Center, Albany N.Y. He was born March 5, 1965 in Gloversville, son of Geraldine Willis Keefe and the late John R. Keefe. A former Boy Scout, Richard was also in the "Order of The Arrow" within the scouts. Richard was educated in Mayfield schools, Vo-Tech where he was a former officer of VICA, and graduated FMCC. A former employee of Epi-Med medical devices for many years, Richard also worked at Security Supply and for the past twenty years he was employed at 4X Heaven in Gloversville. An avid outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and traveling in general. He was a member of the Johnstown Reformed Church, the Mayfield Serviceman's Club and the Mayfield Grill's Pool League. Richard was an Army veteran, serving his country from 1984-1990. Survivors include his son Stephen Brian Keefe Mandi Mays and his grandson Liam Keefe of Virginia, his mother Geraldine and his brother William Keefe of Mayfield. He is also survived by aunts and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday May 16, 2013 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville with Reverend Brian Dykema, pastor of the Johnstown Reformed Church officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 15, from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Mayfield Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to ALS Lou Gehrig Disease Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Rd., Albany, N.Y. 12205, or to the Mayfield's Serviceman's Club.
