Obituary Major Richard Lawrence Lange (USAF Ret.) Major Lange was born February 20, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. He passed away May 7, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Major Lange spent over twenty years in the Armed Forces beginning with his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II and continuing in the United States Air Force. During World War II, he was a gunner on a B-24 in the air war over Europe and North Africa. He was awarded the Purple Heart; the Air Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; the Distinguished Flying Cross; the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, among others. His Air Force service after the war saw duty stations throughout the United States and abroad. Upon retirement from the military, he entered the field of Human Resources in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, working for major corporations. In retirement he returned to Colorado Springs. Never one to sit idly by, Major Lange indulged his love for woodworking and remodeling, beautifying the homes he and his wife Eleanor shared. He and Eleanor also enjoyed travelling to see old friends at reunions of his military units. He is survived by his children: daughters, Terry-Anne Brown (Denis Berckefeldt), Denver, Colorado; Melinda Ford, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Suzanne Lange (Klaus Monberg), Portland, Oregon; Deborah Hartwell (Ronald), Dayton, Ohio; son Richard Lange, Wolf Point, Montana. Grandchildren Chris Brown (Jessica), Courtney Brown, Mathew Lange (Johanna), Sarah Weaver (Evan), Benjamin Lange (Lily), Taylor Ford (Mandi), Carly Ford, Aubrey Golden (Adam), Katrina Lambert (Ronald), Elizabeth McKibben (Joseph); nine great grandchildren and his brother James Lange (Marjorie), his sister Catherine Strum and numerous nieces and nephews. Major Lange was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Eleanor Lange, his parents, E.O. and Clara Lange, and his brothers Thomas and Edward Lange, In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Alzheimer Association www.alz.org Services Pavilion Service Ft.
