Richard Nelson MacPhail
November 7th, 1945 - April 15th, 2015
"Granby - Richard Nelson MacPhail, 69, died at home on April 15, 2015. He was the son of Harold and Genevieve (Carroll) MacPhail. Richard grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Technical High School. He was the owner/operator of the bus companies Penny Express and Ricky Express. Richard was a member of Church of Christ (UCC) in Granby and a life member of the Springfield Elks Lodge 61. He coordinated and coached their youth hockey teams for many years. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Derek MacPhail in 2008. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Penelope (Smith) MacPhail of Granby, his son Richard II of Granby, daughter Deidre Studley of Maine and son Edward of Florida. He also leaves his sister, Jacqueline Egan (Robert) of CT, his brothers-in-law, Leslie Smith (Lois) of NJ and Gregory Smith (Laura) of PA, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 17, at 2:00 at Church of Christ (UCC) in Granby. The burial will be on Monday, May 18, at 11:00 at West Cemetery in Granby. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Church of Christ (UCC) 235 State St., Granby 01033 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield 01104. Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements."
