Richard A. Miller
July 19th, 1938 - March 15th, 2009
Mr. Richard A. Miller, 70, formerly of Ames and Palatine Bridge, died peacefully on March 15, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on July 19, 1938 in Ames he was the son of Richard and Grace Dunham Miller. A lifelong area resident, Richard graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1956. He later went on to Albany Business College and received a diploma in Business Administration. For seven years he worked for the Courier Standard and the Amsterdam Recorder as a photo journalist. In 1970, Richard purchased the former Hearns Corner Store, which he ran as Miller's News in Canajoharie for 28 years until its closing in 1998. Richard was also a bus driver for the Canajoharie Central School District until his retirement in 2001. Richard was a former mayor of Canajoharie, served as a village trustee and was former chairman of the Montgomery County Ethics Committee. He also was a former vice president and served on the board of directors of the Ames Cemetery Association. Richard also was a volunteer for the Montgomery County office of the Aging for a time. His loving family includes many cousins, dear friends and extended family members. A Graveside Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 a 1 o'clock at the Ames Cemetery. At Richard's request there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
