Richard Russell Mortensen

Mortensen, Richard “Rick” Russell, 75, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Fairmont, Minnesota, Rick graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington. He enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1973, in which he proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. Rick came to Florida and attended the University of South Florida. After college, he started a career in the healthcare field which lasted over 40 years. He was the Director of Materials Management and later became the Chief Operating Officer of the West Florida Supply Chain for HCA, later known as Parallon. Rick retired from that position but continued to work as the Director of Supply Chain Operations for Parallon up until a few weeks prior to his death. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Donna Mortensen, and his sister, Linda Lee Mortensen. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan Mortensen; son, Andrew Edward MacDonald (Nicole), daughter, Mary Lee Mortensen; grandchildren, Christopher Russell and Madison Lucille Trivigno and soon to be grandchild Baby MacDonald, brother, Roger and his family. Rick was a loving, kind, compassionate, hard-working man. He loved his family, golf, football, nascar, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a calm, peaceful demeanor and made everyone feel like they mattered. Rick’s spirit and legacy will live on his family, especially in his grandchildren, and will be remembered by all who knew him. Rick’s memorial service will be on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at 10am at their church, Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 1200 Keene Road South, Clearwater, Florida.
