Richard Franklin Newman
January 1st, 1938 - December 15th, 2016
Richard Franklin Newman, 78, of Las Vegas, died Thursday, December 15, 2016. rich was born to Cy and Evelyn Newman, the third born son in a family of nine children. rich has the distinction of being the first baby born on January 1, 1938 in New York City. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. rich and Peggy Newman moved to Las Vegas in 1970, where rich enjoyed a successful career as part owner of Newman Hamilton Advertising and produced and hosted The House Detective television program for 30 years. When rich retired from television, he produced and founded The Original Coloring Book at the age of 75. The Original Coloring Book highlighted landmarks in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, and Route 66, just to name a few. Even in declining health, rich kept working and dreaming. Anyone who had the pleasure and honor to know rich would tell you he was an extraordinary man. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy; sons Jesse (Shannon), Joe (Melinda) and Larry (Jacquelynn); grandchildren Grace, Luke, Heather, Matthew, Hannah, Caleb, Evelynn, Sophia and Calvary; great grandchildren Micah and Logan. rich will be missed by his surviving brothers Mike of Fairfax VA, Joe of Indianapolis IN and Dave of Reno NV; and his sisters Pat of Spring Valley CA, Valerie of Sierra Madre CA and Laura Coleman of Las Vegas. He is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, as well as many many friends. A remembrance service honoring the memory of rich (who always insisted his name be written in lower case!) will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 1:00-4:00 at Kraft Sussman Funeral Home; 3975 S. Durango Dr. Ste. 104. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice (nah.org) in rich's memory.
