Richard A. Rhodes
February 24th, 1948 - March 18th, 2023
The world lost a devoted husband and beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard Alan Rhodes, 75 years old of Gloversville, NY on March 18th 2023. Richard passed away unexpectedly at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. Richard fought a courageous battle with Dementia and Diabetes. His illnesses never slowed him down and he was always there to help others and live life to it's fullest. Richard was born February 24th, 1948 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY. He was a 1967 graduate of Gloversville High School and lived his whole life in Gloversville. Richard worked for Sammons Communications (Cable TV) for many years. He then kept busy working two jobs that he loved very much-Walmart DC 6096 and Lexington ARC- Recreation Dept, Family Services and working with the band FLAME, for 21 years until his retirement. He greatly enjoyed wood working in his retirement years as well. Richard was a kind, gentle and loving soul that really took great pride in the work that he did and cared for all of those that he worked with. Richard was a very devoted and loving father to his children, grandchildren and his great-granddaughter, Elliot Rose- who was his pride and joy-who he nicknamed "Boo-Boo". Richard's most favorite past times were bike riding, coaching little league, playing baseball, fishing and traveling with his wife Barbara. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, going to garage and Estate sales with his wife, watching NASCAR and his Giants football. Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Barbara, his mother and father Fay and Beatrice Rhodes, brother Fay Rhodes Jr, infant sister Betty Rhodes and his beloved dog Coco. He is survived by his children Tracie Craig (Bill and Kelly Wager), Rick Rhodes (Lyndsey) and Kelly DiScioscia (Douglas Crewell), two grandchildren, Monica and Dominic DiScioscia, great-granddaughter Elliot Rose and soon to be great-grandson Giorno Mateo. Also survived by his sister Patricia Yates, several nieces, nephews and other family members including his beloved pup-Hershe Moca. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10am-12noon Wednesday March 22nd at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Funeral services will follow immediately afterwards and burial services will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
