Richard Salisbury

Richard Mumford ?Dick? Salisbury Mr. Salisbury, 89, of Charlotte died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by his family. Dick was born on October 19, 1922, in Hamilton, NC, the son of the late Paul Salisbury and Estelle Johnson Salisbury. Dick was a graduate of Fishburne Military Academy. He enrolled in NC State University, but WW II interrupted his college years. Dick served his country as an infantryman in the 100th Division, landing in Marseilles, France, and marching across France and Germany. For his bravery in battle he was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. Following the war, Dick returned to NC State and graduated. He enjoyed a long and successful career in the textile industry. Dick was a true ?people person? and natural salesman. It was often observed that Dick never met a stranger. Dick loved his family especially his two sons. He took an active role in their lives, such as volunteering for scouting and attending all sporting events. Dick was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Piedmont Club. He was also a member of Charlotte Country Club, Quail Hollow Club, Linville Golf Club, Lauderdale Yacht Club, Good Fellows and Wolf Pack Club. In addition to his parents, his brothers, Carl and Paul Salisbury and his sister, Martha Salisbury Smoot, preceded Dick in death. Dick is survived by his devoted wife of sixty years, Sara Covington Salisbury; his son, Richard M. Salisbury, Jr. and wife, Margaret and their children, Alexandra, Catherine, and Nina Salisbury; his son, J. Alexander ?Andy? Salisbury and wife, Camille and their children, Sara Elizabeth and J. Alexander ?Andy? Salisbury, Jr. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff and fine nurses at Southminister for their devoted care.
