Richard Sanders, Jr.
December 9th, 1940 - April 19th, 2022
Richard Sanders, Jr was born at Meadowbrook Hospital in Hempstead Township Nassau County, Long Island New York on December 9th, 1940. He was the eldest of three sons born to Richard Sanders, Sr and Rosetta Kilson Sanders and was affectionately called "Junior" by his younger brothers and close cousins and "Brush" by friends, and "Kuumo Anaji" by the art community. As a result of preschool tutoring by both parents, Richard learned basic addition, subtraction, and the alphabet at an early age of 4 years and 9 months old. He skipped Kindergarten to begin his early school education in the first grade in the Freeport public school system. In February of 1953, Richard's family moved to Huntington Long island. After he graduated from high school Richard joined the US Marine Corps, he achieved promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal and was honorably discharged in Feb 1962. As a result of his mastery of Karate while in the Marine Corps, Richard enjoyed volunteering as a trainer to many enthusiastic students from among his friends and acquaintances. Richard had also excelled in visual arts, including sign painting, which qualified him to attain self-employment in this profession. Richard's aka Kuumo Anajis work was featured in museums, coffee shops, barbershops, and private shows. His work has received a warm welcome in the town of Davidson, NC where he lived for 14 years. This proved to be a beautiful launch pad where he continued his love of art in Albuquerque, New Mexico where his artwork thrived for 14 years. Richard painted his final pieces of work in Charlotte, NC where he has blessed his local friends, neighbors, and mail carriers with custom pieces they treasure as a memory of his abstract talents. On November 6th, 1965 Richard was married to Eunice Mosely. He fathered 6 children, Carrie Edward (Dinka) Angela Randall, Richard Sanders III, Renee Palmer, Michele Sanders, and Kennedy Oddo & husband Bob Oddo, and 14 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Richard Sanders Sr., (8/19/1971), Rosetta Sanders Smith (6/1/02), son Richard Sanders, III (4/7/2017) and brother Gilbert Sanders (4/20/2017).
