Richard "Dick" Schranz

Richard “Dick” Schranz age 96 of Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024, with his family around him. Dick was born on June 19, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. Dick was a resident of The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch in Sarasota, FL for 21 years. He was very proud of being the first resident of The Glenridge, moving in with his late wife Marge in 2003. Dick was a Veteran serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He later went on to work as a Sales Executive at Firmenich, from which he retired in 1990. Dick earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, graduating from the University of Illinois Medical Center in 1950.

Dick was an outgoing man with a wonderful sense of humor. Because of these qualities, he made friends everywhere he went. Since his career selling flavors and fragrances took him all over the world, he had friends everywhere. After retirement, he continued to enjoy international travel. He traveled to Austria several times to visit locations with family ties, and he enjoyed river cruises across Europe. At the age of 85, he traveled to Portugal to meet the family of his granddaughter’s future husband, where as usual, everyone became his friend, even those who didn’t share a common language. Some of his other interests included classical music, opera in particular, and he always enjoyed a good meal, especially those prepared by his wife, Marge. Dick was an avid, lifelong golfer, playing at courses all around the world. He was devoted to Marge, his three children, and their families, and after Marge’s death, to his companion Sally. He was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Broeckl Schranz. Marge passed away in 2008, after 54 years of marriage. Parents Anthony Schranz and Marie Hoefler Schranz; son-in-law Michael Jacobson; sisters Ruth Fowler, and Loretta Hastings Christian; brother-in-law Bill Driscoll; nieces Maria Hastings and Pearl de Marco also preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Richard Schranz, Jr (Deborah Dahl) Susan Jacobson, Thomas Schranz (Valerie); grandchildren; Sarah Schranz Oliveira (Nuno) Peter Schranz, Alison Schranz, Rebecca Schranz; two great-grandchildren; significant other Sally Comegys; sister Jeanette Driscoll; and nieces and nephews David Fowler, Elizabeth Fowler, Jonathan Fowler, Catherine Huge, Paul Cintura, Thomas Driscoll, Regina Stilp, Marie Reynolds, Audrey Driscoll, Joanna Miller de Zwart, Julie Siculan, and Barbara Johnston.

A memorial service for Dick will be held at The Glenridge at Palmer Ranch, at 11:00 a.m., September 9, 2024. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Dick’s honor to St. Thomas More Catholic Church 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, FL 34231.
