Richard William Self
February 3rd, 1928 - April 11th, 2024
Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” Richard William Self, age 96 of Kingsport, went home to be with Jesus and was reunited with his wife and soulmate, Nancy, on April 11, 2024. Richard was born on February 3, 1928, in Rockford, IL to Charlie and Adelia Self. On June 28, 1947, Richard married his most cherished friend and love of his life, Nancy Palmer, and after 60 years of a beautiful life together she preceded him in death on August 13, 2007. Richard loved his family and was a Deacon at Indian Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing in the choir, watching UT sports and the Kingsport Mets. Richard was a champion ping pong player, and during his spare time you could find him woodworking while chewing on his favorite cigar. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Nancy Self; two children, Gary William Self and Karen Ann Self; and two sisters, Betty Moore and Evelyn Lockhart. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Richard C. Self and wife Gail; daughter, Adelia Lee Jones and husband Tim; grandchildren, Jason Chad Self and wife Nicole, Brandon Scott Self and wife Tiffany, and Chelsea Nicole Rose and husband Chris; several great grandchildren; and many loving family members. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tom Schoeneck officiating. A military graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park. American Legion Hammond Post 3/265 will be providing military honors. Chad Self, Brandon Self, Isaiha Stuart, and Chris Rose will be serving as pallbearers.
