Richard D Sousa, 56, formerly of New Hartford, New York, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Tidewell Hospice house in Bradenton, Florida with his loving wife and children by his side. He was born in New Hartford, New York on June 19, 1961, a son of the late Richard and Diane (Hiscock) Sousa. Richard attended Utica and New Hartford Central Schools. Richard worked as a master finish carpenter through all of his adult life, where he not only blessed clients with his hand crafted works of art; he also established lasting friendships with his clients. Over the years, Richard mentored many young people with his carpentry skills. While living in New Hartford, New York, Richard worked for the following New York companies: Human Technologies and Rich Home Building along with running his own business in his younger years. After moving to Florida, he worked for Superior Interiors and also worked as a freelance finish carpenter. On September 4, 1982 Richard married his high school sweetheart, Corinne Fitts, and they recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Richard is survived by his sisters – Debra Lauer and her husband Ray, Cindy Montero and her husband John, and his brothers John Sousa, David Sousa, and Steven Sousa and his fiancée Jennifer. Richard has three children in which he adored with all his heart – Danielle Thomas and her husband Jamison, Derek Sousa and his fiancée Melissa and Richard D Sousa Jr. Richard's cherished grandchildren, Saradi, Skyla, Landon, Kali, Cameron and Derek Jr, will miss their grandpa’s loving and spoiling nature. He also had several nieces and nephews in which he loved very much. He had many devoted and loving friends that will miss him and always remember his amazing sense of humor and loving nature. Richard had several hobbies, some of which were his love of fishing and riding his motorcycle. His favorite activity was to go thrifting every Saturday morning where he found several treasures. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all that had the pleasure to know him. A service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Harbor Life Baptist Church, 3220 59th Avenue Drive East, Suite 103, Bradenton, FL 34203. A Celebration of Life will follow, and the location will be announced at the service. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, Florida. Our family has an angel in heaven who will continue to watch over us until we all meet again.
