Sowers, Richard E., 82, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Wednesday March 3, 2004 at Cypress Palms Nursing Home under Hospice care. Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1996 from Daytona Beach, Florida. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force during WWII receiving the Good Conduct, American Theatre, Victory, European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign medals plus the Bronze Battle Stars. He was a flight engineer with National and Pan American Airlines for 33 years in Miami. He was a protestant and a member of Central Florida Buccaneers. He is survived by a son, Richard E. Sowers, Jr. of St. Petersburg; a daughter, Carolyn Buehler of Venice, Florida; two sisters, Lorraine Wolfe of Kenova, West Virginia and Marie Boyer of Ft. Myers, Florida and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice of The Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL 33770.
