Richard A Storey
January 24th, 1931 - May 16th, 2023
Richard Allen Storey, age 92, of Bradenton, Florida, went quietly to be with the Lord May 16, 2023 surrounded by family and comforted by the care of Tidewell Hospice. He was born January 24, 1931 in East Point, Georgia, attended public school in Colquitt County and graduated from Moultrie High School. Richard resided in Melbourne, Florida for 35 years before retiring to Bradenton in 2001. Richard retired from the USAF as a Technical Sergeant in 1975 after 23 years of distinguished service, service abroad, and numerous commendations. As a Small Arms Instructor, he was an Expert Marksman, and was proud to maintain this remarkable skill well into his elder years. He worked as a licensed contractor, constructing commercial buildings and custom residences throughout Brevard County until full retirement in 1992. He then became an inspirational leader as Men's Lay Director for Walk to Emmaus, an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation. Family and friends were Richards's love and joy and his heart was full when surrounded by them, just as he was during his peaceful departure. He was well loved and deeply cherished by all he came to know, inspiring and entertaining many through the signature and seemingly endless stories he loved to tell. Ever kind, loving, and generous, he was always genial and easy to please. He could build and repair most anything and was happiest when creatively working with his hands. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Plymel Storey; father, Benjamin L. Storey; mother, Elizabeth L. Storey; brother, Billy Storey; sisters; Ann Chafin and Eleanor Storey. Richard joined Barbara in holy matrimony February 17, 1957 and together they formed an amazing love story that endured for 59 years. Their union was blessed with two children: daughter, Cynthia A. Logue (Doyle); son, Michael A. Storey (Nancy); eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers-in-law; Derell Plymel (Linda), Donald Plymel, David Plymel, and sisters-in-law; Faith Plymel and Antoinette Weilnau. Richard leaves behind many nieces; nephews; caring relatives; and friends as well. A Memorial Service to Celebrate his Life and to worship the Lord, followed by a reception, will be held June 4, 2023, 1:00 PM at Worthington on Lovelee Lake, 4815 17th Street East, Ellenton, Florida 34221.
