In Loving Memory of Richard Stephen Sylvester Richard Stephen Sylvester, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 1, 2023, after a long battle with dementia. He was 90 years old. Richard was born to William and Connie Sylvester at Sloane Hospital NYC in 1933, and grew up alongside his brother, William. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene Adams Sylvester, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. Richard's legacy lives on through his daughters, Linda Daelemans (George) and Lisa McDevitt (Brian), who learned the values of family and resilience from their father. Richard was a doting grandfather to four grandchildren: Connor, Kyle, Caitlin, and Luke, who adored their "Grandpa" and shared countless special moments with him. His wisdom and affection enriched their lives, creating lasting bonds that will forever be cherished. Recently, Richard was blessed with the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to Arthur, a new generation of love and happiness. Richard grew up in Woodside NY. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 at Vint Hill Farms, VA. Richard dedicated a significant portion of his life to his work with Bendix Corporation while stationed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. His commitment to advancing human spaceflight was evident in his involvement in some of the most iconic moments in space history. Richard's dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence were instrumental in the success of the Gemini, Mercury, Apollo, and Space Shuttle programs. His work played a pivotal role in expanding our understanding of the universe and pushing the boundaries of human exploration. He retired in 1988 after a distinguished career spanning 25 years with the Bendix Corporation. Richard's memory will be treasured by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humor, and his unwavering love for his family. He was a great neighbor and friend to all around him. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers and medical professionals who provided care and support during Richard's battle with dementia. Richard Stephen Sylvester will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
