Nicholasville, KY Richard Thalheimer, 72, of Nicholasville, Kentucky passed away March 28 after a brave struggle with ALS. Richard is survived by Sally his wife of 38 years along with his loving children Mark, Janet and Beth and grandchildren Braxton, Gavin, Sarah and Kitty. He was born in Houston, Texas on November 11, 1943 to Albert and Helen Thalheimer and is survived by brothers Foster, David and Jonathan. He was recently predeceased by his brother William. Richard received his BS degree in metallurgical engineering from Case-Western Reserve. He also earned an M.B.A from West Virginia University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Kentucky. Richards career included the worlds of academia, government service and business. He started his career as an Economist for the Department of Revenue, Commonwealth of Kentucky. This was followed by becoming the Associate Director, Center for Real Estate and Land Use Analysis at the University of Kentucky. He then returned to government as the Director, Research Division, for the Kentucky Department of Revenue and later the Executive Director, Office of Revenue Estimating and Economic Analysis for the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet. He enjoyed teaching and did so as an adjunct faculty member at Xavier University and as a professor of Equine Administration in the College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Louisville. In addition to his academic and government careers, Richard founded and ran two companies, Thalheimer Equine Associates and Thalheimer Research Associates (TRA, Inc.). His deep expertise in the gaming and equine industry and his acknowledged integrity led to the demand for his services from all facets of the industry. Richard loved the thoroughbred industry and made it his mission to try to preserve the industry. His worldwide reputation for the eloquence, precision and directness of his research in the gaming and equine industry led to his publication in many major national and international journals. He belonged to a variety of economic associations and was on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Gambling Business and Economics located in Great Britain. The family greatly appreciates the wonderful care that Janet Hall, Cindy Bain and Ute Childers provided our Richard during his illness. Funeral Information Visitation will be 10-12 Saturday April 2, 2016. Funeral to follow at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing.
