Richard Murhl Werner December 25, 1924 ~ October 2, 2013 Resident of Pleasant Hill Richard Murhl Werner passed away Oct. 2, 2013 at home with his children and at peace at age 88. Richard was born on Dec. 25, 1924 to John & Lucy (Stern) Werner on the family farm south of Bowdon, North Dakota. Richard was the 5th child of 7 children. He attended grade school and went on to graduate from Sykeston High School. In 1943, Richard was drafted and began his service in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star for combat in the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946 and moved to Stockton, CA. In 1948, he met & married the love of his life, Kathleen Francis McGrath. In 1950, he received his Journeyman certificate in Auto Body, and in 1951, he bought a home in Pleasant Hill where they raised their 3 children, Tim, Shelly and John. He began his career in Auto Body at Lehmers Oldsmobile in Concord, where he worked 30 years. He also worked for his Union, Local I.A. of M. #1173. In 1981, his wife Kay passed away. Richard became co-owner of Plaza Auto Body in Lafayette, retiring in 1990. He was a fisherman at heart, tied his own flies and was happiest fishing with his buddies or his family in Northern CA. Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kay, his parents, John & Lucy and by his siblings, Harry, Leola, Rosella & LaVonne. Richard is survived by his sisters, Florence Fruhwirth of Bismark, North Dakota and Margaret Stepp of Mountain Ranch, CA. He leaves behind his 3 children, Tim Werner of Pleasant Hill, Shelly Videau of Pleasant Hill and John Werner of Pleasant Hill; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Jenna, Coree, Raymond and Zachary; 10 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. He was a genuinely sweet and humble man who was loved & will be forever missed. Graveside services & Interment were held privately with family at Lewiston Cemetery, Lewiston, CA.
